08/2019 - Week of Sturgis Rally - John, Angie, Cody and Jason, MN

This is our crews 2nd time here. As this place is filled with nature, great talks with hospitality, Jackie and Les. The bonfires and the dinner that was made for all of us staying here was great. Nothing better than riding all day and come back to relax and listen to the stream. Thank you for all the hospitatlity and for unlocking us and letting us out of the cabin as we were locked inside too! haha. Thanks!

07/11- 07/13/2019 - The Scheele’s

This was the second time our family has stayed at the cabins. 2009 and 2019. We love the stream. Our 3 girls love to play in it. We love to walk to Cheyenne Crossing for a yummy dinner. Thanks for another memorable stay.

08/19/2018 - The Olsons

Originally our weekend plan was to tent camp and hike in the Hills but we had to change because of the constant rain so we found this little gem of a place! The lady here (Starla) was so friendly to us and our last minute check in. We did get to hike Devils Bathtub yesterday before the hail and went down the slide a few times. We then had a heck of a time finding ice cream in Deadwood but we did ad a cute little antique place! We ended the night playing Yahtzee and snacking until we couldn’t snack no more. Today we celebrate a golden birthday and move a kid to college at BHSU. It was a wonderful way to say goodbye for the semester!

7/25 - 7/30/2018 - Don, Amanda and Laz

Don, Laz and myself (Amanda) arrived Wednesday and were greeted by the fabulous host Starla and her daughter! Everyone gave us some great fishing spots (mile marker 27 is the best on 14A if you are here to fish!!) and we fought some beautiful browns! Our second Day here a tornado went through Spearfish Canyon and left us with no power. Our fellow campers and ourselves started a big fire and stayed around and BS’ed with each other. It was a BLAST! What a gem of people we have ran into here. Our third day the power came back on and we hung out with Les and laughed all night! The last night we hung out with our new biker buddies and laughed the whole time. side note - this cabin is haunted! It locked me in twice - again I just laughed. Great people, special spot on the planet - excellent cabins - I loved every second of it! We’d like to bring our daughter here…Thank you so much Les, Jackie and Starla! Never change =)

08/22/2017 - Hoyt Lakes, MN

We stayed last night in the cabin in the middle and decided to stay another night so here we are. We absolutely loved it here. We drove up to Spearfish today and it was amazing. Leaving in a few minutes to go take sunset pictures with my honey. We hope to be back next summer with our kiddos. P.S. We came through on our way back from the Eclipse 2017 in WY.

Our days here is the most relaxing experience that will always be remembered. The children enjoyed their adventure to the woods, playing in the cool stream. My daughter in law and myself truly enjoyed our conversations. The place is so beautiful and inviting. I’ve planned to return again one day. Thank you so much.. We will miss you and your awesome place. God Bless.

P.S. No words to describe the beauty of mother nature that surround the cabins, the pleasure of warm conversation. The children are having difficulties leaving. Once again thank you for your hospitality.

I like how cute it is. I love how peaceful it is and how the stream flows. I like to look for cool rocks in the stream. I like the campfires at night and I like all the big hills and big ricks. I love this place a lot. - Olivia

08/16 - 08/17/2019

This was a great cabin for a couple days. A great place and location. Enjoyed a nice meal at the restaurant Friday and cooked our meal on Saturday night. Was able to get to hiking trails easily. Little Spearfish, Rimrock and Iron Creek North - and of course the beautiful Roughlock Falls. My sister ran leading ladies marathon and the start was just 5 miles up Hanna Rd so very convenient. We also met the owners and had a nice visit. Love the outdoors.

This was an excellent place to come back and have our reunion. You guys are some of the nicest folks around. The cabins are beautiful as is the scenery right out your front step. I thank you for such a great time! We will be back!

09/03/2018 - Notes from Peggy

What a joy to find Wickiup Village - a piece of old time peace and quiet, a camp of quaint cabins yet modern conveniences. Our 3 night stay has been graced by beautiful warm weather: sunny bright days. We came to watch some rock climbing feats by family members and also took the Roughlock Falls Trail, the High Plains Western Heritage Center (Spearfish) and the Sanford Lab Visitor Center (Lead) - plus great bratwurst and burger dinners thanks to Brenda and Jeff! What a beautiful place to have fun!

So a beautiful 9 year old girl was so excited to run and splash in the stream as soon as we arrived, one of her flip flops escaped into the stream! Chasing frantically from bridge to bridge, the estranged flip flop made its escape into worlds unknown. Oh the stories it will tell?

(If the little rogue flip flop ever returns to see its mate, please place them into the office for the next little girl you see running around in one flip flop!)

I really really liked the stream. It was calming! I liked the big space around the cabin. I liked the beds. They were comfortable. I liked the logs. I don’t know why but I just loved the logs. I LOVED sleeping by the screens. This may sound funny but I liked how small the shower way. I liked going to the office and seeing the people that work there =) But anyways I LOVE it here. Thank you for letting my family and I stay here!

Pine Knot is a comfortable cabin for us two in a pretty location near the creek.  It's a good central spot for day trips to see wild flowers and mountains.  Roughlock Falls is a pretty perk with smooth trails and several different viewing platforms.  July 21st - We went to Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse Monument today.  Not too long a drive to see such impressive carvings.

8/27/2014 - Darcy and Deedee, Winnipeg

This was our last stop on our motorcycle trip which included Glacier National Park, Yellowstone, Bighorn Mountain and finally this area.  This was our favorite cabin of this trip! It has been such a relaxing stay and it is so nice to come back to a place that feels like a little house after each days adventure.  We had a great chat with Les and would have loved to get to know you better. Maybe next time?  Thank you!

Can't say enough about how wonderful our stay was.  I look forward to a return visit later this summer. I felt wonderful memories of my childhood in the cabin -Jackie, Les and Barb couldn't of been more caring and made you feel so welcome.  I always say God puts you where you need to be and he sure did. This is our 5th year up here for the Rally.  We really enjoyed the cabin and the area. Les and Jackie are always awesome hosts and have become great friends.  We have made many new friends up here and always look forward to coming back.

Wickiup Cabins would probably be my first choice for cabins.  It is really cool because you can rent a tube for really cheap and me and my sister would non stop tube for so long it was uncountable.  I LOVE these cabins!  Thank you!

We have been coming to Wickiup for 46 years...starting with the Howry Clan.  It is always an amazing experience.  Even though we miss the more rustic cabins with the wood burners, it continues to be a rustic retreat and we are always made to feel welcome and special.  Spearfish Canyon is still somewhat of a refuge and special area.  Thank you for the time and space.

7/4/2014 - The Merryfields, MI

This has been our favorite family vacation yet.  What a beautiful part of the country and Wickiup cabins are just our style.  We went to Devils Tower and Custer State Park. The Needles in Custer was amazing.  The kids loved tubing in the creek and even talked Mom into going once.  We are so thankful to experience such a beautiful place and hope to come back again.
